51 24 324 Removing and installing/replacing right tension spring for tailgate

WARNING: Danger of injury!
Support tailgate in fully opened position with suitable apparatus.

Remove flap (1).

Release clip (1).

Feed out trim panel (2) from edge protection (3).

Make a written record of the position of tension spring (5) on rear holder (4).

WARNING: Wear glove when detaching tension spring (5).

Reach to rear of trim panel (2) and detach tension spring (5) from rear holder (4) and hinge (6).

Installation note: 

Trim panel (2) must be fitted correctly under edge protection (3).

Reattach tension spring (5) in same position on rear holder (4).

Installation note: 

Positions (1 to 3) influence the closing force of the tension spring.

  1. Soft (factory setting without rear spoiler)
  2. Medium
  3. Hard (factory setting with rear spoiler)

If the closing force needs to be changed: Observe NOTES ON SETTING CLOSING FORCE !
