Removal & Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 43 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW 330Ci, 2006 BMW 325Ci, 2005 BMW M3, and 2005 BMW 330xi. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel(s).
- Remove caliper. See CALIPER ASSEMBLY .
- Remove outer brake pad. Inner brake pad is located with its spring in piston. See Fig 1.
- Mark any worn brake pads. In the event of one-sided brake pad wear, do not change brake pads around. New brake pads may only be installed if brake disc thickness is greater than or equal to minimum thickness. See DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Clean brake pads. Do not apply grease to brake pad backplate.
- Check dust sleeve (1) for damage and replace if necessary. Clean contact face (2) of brake piston and apply a thin coating of anti-squeak compound. See Fig 2.
- Reassemble caliper.
- Install caliper. See CALIPER ASSEMBLY .
- Install wheel(s).
- Lower vehicle.
- Fully depress brake pedal several times so that brake pads contact brake discs.
- When new brake pads are fitted on front and rear axles, brake fluid level must be brought up to MAX marking.
- Hold ignition key for at least 30 seconds in position "1" without starting engine. This clears a fault entry in the RAM. This prevents brake wear indicator lamp from lighting up again.
