13 53 208 Removing and installing/replacing right rail (N63 B40/B44 O 1)
Observe warning on cylinder head cover.
Disconnect NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL (risk of fire due to short circuit on removal).
Carry out installation work on fuel system only with coolant temperature below 40 °C.
Fuel can emerge spontaneously at high speed when the high pressure line is released!
Introduced contaminants can cause malfunctions in the system!
- Do not allow any dirt particles or foreign bodies to get into the system.
- Remove all traces of dirt before removing lines or separate components.
- Use only fluff-free cloths.
- Seal all fuel system openings with protective caps or plugs.
Recycling
Fuel escapes when fuel line is detached. Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Necessary preliminary work:
- Read out the fault memory of the DME control unit. If necessary, work through test plans.
- Switch off ignition.
- Remove right-hand INTAKE SILENCER HOUSING
- Remove IGNITION COILS FOR CYLINDERS 1-4 .
Unlock and pull off connector from high-pressure sensor on rail.
Unlock and pull off connector from injectors.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 12 51 1AZ .
Release wiring harnesses (2) from cylinder head cover and place to one side.
Installation note:
When installing the high-pressure sensor cable with the cable strap (1) lt. fasten the ETK on the rail.
Release nuts (1) on injectors.
Release nut (2) on high pressure pump.
Release screws (3).
Remove rail.
Installation note:
First insert the rail at the pump connector (2), then lower to the point where the ball heads are positioned inside the injector cones and the rail is correctly positioned.
Then tighten the nuts (1) on the injectors so they are hand-tight. Next, hand-tighten the nut (2) of the high pressure pump. Lastly, mount screws (3) and hand-tighten.
Observe screwing sequence .
- Apply hand tightening force to screws (3) on rail.
Tightening torque 13 53 1AZ .
- Tighten nuts (1) on the injectors.
Tightening torque 13 53 2AZ .
- Apply tightening force to nut (2) on high pressure pump.
Tightening torque 13 53 3AZ .
Check fuel system for tightness.
Clear diagnostic fault entries from fault memory.
