1700005 Draining and adding coolant (M57T2)
Special tools required
Only carry out repair work on the cooling system after the engine has cooled down.
Never reuse used coolant!
When replacing and removing components which rely on the corrosion protection effect of the coolant, it is essential to change the coolant. The cooling system must therefore be drained and refilled.
In the case of other removal work involving the draining of partial quantities of coolant, replace these quantities which have been drained with new coolant.
Installation note:
Use only recommended coolant. See COOLING SYSTEM - OPERATING FLUIDS . .
Observe mixture ratio. See COOLING SYSTEM - OPERATING FLUIDS .
Necessary preliminary work
- Remove acoustic cover
- Remove INTAKE PIPE
Cover turbocharger with suitable auxiliary materials (risk of damage ).
Protective measures/rules of conduct
- Wear safety goggles
- Wear protective gloves
- Observe national/country-specific regulations
Danger of injury!
Catch and dispose of drained coolant in drip tray (1) and if necessary special tool 00 2 030 (universal hydraulic lifting equipment).
Recycling
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.
Open the sealing cap (1) on the coolant expansion tank (2).
Installation note:
Close the sealing cap (1) until the arrow marks line up.
If fitted, release coolant drain plug (1) on radiator. For radiators without coolant drain plug, unlock coolant hose and remove.
Cover opening on turbocharger without fail.
1 Loosen coolant drain plug (1) on engine block.
Installation note:
Replace gasket.
Tightening torque 11 11 5AZ .
Open the bleeder screw (1).
Adding coolant
Use only recommended coolant. COOLING SYSTEM - OPERATING FLUIDS .
Observe CAPACITIES .
Observe mixture ratio. See COOLING SYSTEM - OPERATING FLUIDS .
