11 12 000 Removing and installing, sealing/replacing cylinder head cover (M57TU)

Necessary preliminary tasks 

IMPORTANT: Protect alternator against engine oil.
Cover alternator with suitable apparatus (risk of damage)  .
Fit charge air hoses dry and without grease.

Release screws (1).

Remove suction pipe in direction of arrow.

NOTE: Illustrations show M57.

Release all bolts (arrows).

Release bolts (1) from outside to inside.

Remove cylinder head cover (3).

Installation: 

First tighten bolts (1) from inside to outside. Tighten down outer bolts diagonally and evenly.

Remove bolts (arrows).

Replace profile gaskets (1).

Clean sealing surface to remove all gasket remnants.

Remove gasket debris from sealing faces (2) of cylinder head and clean.

Apply a bead of Drei Bond 1209 sealing compound, approx. 3 mm wide and 2 mm high, in area of joints (1).

NOTE: Illustrations show M57.

Assemble engine.
