Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 2003 BMW 530i, 2003 BMW 525i, 2002 BMW M5, 2002 BMW 540i, and 2002 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Move steering column to "bottom" and "extended" position.
Unscrew screw. See Fig 1.
Press both sides of marked area on top section inwards and remove by pulling upwards. See Figure.
Unclip and remove upper section. See Fig 2.
To install, reverse removal procedure. Insert hook (1) in mounts (2). See Fig 3.
Locking unit (1) must locate in the hook (2). See Figure.
Fit new expanding nut. See Figure.
