Crash unlocking

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 21 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW Z4, 2006 BMW M3, 2006 BMW M Roadster, 2006 BMW M Coupe, and 2006 BMW 550i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

A crash is detected by the passive safety system ASE = Advanced Safety Electronics). The crash message is reported by the Safety and gateway module (SGM) to the CAS control unit. The message is sent on the K CAN. The CAS control unit unlocks the vehicle.

All operating points are blocked when there is a crash message. This prevents unintentional actions of the central locking system from occurring due to short circuits caused by the accident.

The central locking system can only be reactivated after a crash once terminal R has been switched off for at least 3 seconds.
