Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 92 other vehicles, including the 2002 BMW Z3, 2002 BMW M Roadster, 2002 BMW M Coupe, 2001 BMW Z3, and 2001 BMW M5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheel(s).
  2. Remove rear brake disc. See BRAKE DISC .
  3. Disconnect return springs with brake spring pliers. See Fig 1.
  4. Twist clamping pins with special tool 34 4 000 through 90 degrees and disconnect. See Fig 2.
  5. Remove brake shoes.
  6. If necessary, remove or replace expander by pulling part (A) backwards, press out pin (B), and pull out part (C). See Fig 3.
  7. To install, reverse removal procedure. Coat thread of adjusting bush (1) and screw (2) with grease. Notice installation position of adjusting screws. See Fig 4.
  8. Check return springs and replace if necessary.
  9. Adjust parking brake and check operation. See PARKING BRAKE  under ADJUSTMENTS.
