Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 BMW 545i and 2004 BMW 545i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove lower section of microfilter housing. See MICROFILTER HOUSING LOWER SECTION .
  2. Suck brake fluid out of expansion tank. Use a suction bottle or syringe which is used exclusively for brake fluid. Do NOT reuse drawn out brake fluid.
  3. Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect. See Fig 1. Release retaining screw (2). Pull expansion tank vertically out of brake master cylinder.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Check rubber plug in brake master cylinder for damage. Replace if necessary. Press expansion tank vertically onto brake master cylinder.
  5. Fill expansion tank with new brake fluid.
