Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 BMW 545i and 2004 BMW 545i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove expansion tank. See EXPANSION TANK .
  2. Remove pedal assembly trim. See PEDAL ASSEMBLY TRIM .
  3. Remove locking clip (1). See Fig 1. Disengage and pull out locking pin. Slacken nuts (2).
  4. Unfasten brake lines (1). See Fig 2. Detach brake lines at junction (2) and remove short sections. Seal off brake lines and brake master cylinder with Plugs (32 1 270). Release nuts (3) and feed brake master out of brake booster.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Replace sealing ring. See Fig 3.
  6. When inserting master brake cylinder in brake booster, make sure pressure rod of brake booster and brake master cylinder meet each other on one level.
  7. Replace self-locking nuts. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Tighten brake lines to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  8. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
