51 11 158 Replacing baseplate for number/license plate

NOTE: Illustrations show USA license plate baseplate.

Release screws or rivets (1).

Remove license plate baseplate (2).

Version with Park Distance Control: 

If license plate baseplate (1) is installed outside measurements (A and B) to bumper (2) and ultrasonic transducer (3), this may result in incorrect triggering of Park Distance Control.

A = approx. 125 mm

B = approx. 30 mm (measured at outer edge of license plate baseplate)

NOTE: If necessary, it will be possible from 12/2006 to prevent incorrect triggering of Park Distance Control by adapting the threshold values of the inner sensors.

Carry out programming/coding  .

Carrier for replacement license plate: 

Position carrier (1) centrally and in accordance with measurement (A) on bumper.

A = 25 mm

Mark and introduce holes (dia. 2 mm) for screws (2) as illustrated.

Install carrier (1) with screws (2).

NOTE: In order to absorb mounting forces from both screws (2), spring-mounted pins of carrier (1) must be located on the left side (viewed in the direction of travel).

Fit license plate baseplate in upper position to carrier (1).
