11 13 010 Removing and installing/replacing upper oil sump section (S63)

Special tools required:

11 9 240
11 7 201

Necessary preliminary work:

Drain off ENGINE OIL .
Secure engine in INSTALLATION POSITION .
Lower front axle . See 31 11 506 LOWERING/RAISING FRONT AXLE SUPPORT (SWZ00-2040) or 31 11 506 LOWERING/RAISING FRONT AXLE SUPPORT (UNIVERSAL LIFTER)
Remove FRONT DIFFERENTIAL .
Remove LOWER OIL SUMP SECTION .
Release SUPPLY/RETURN LINES on oil filter.
Release holders of supply/return lines on oil sump.
Detach plug from oil pressure switch.
Unclip wiring harness on oil sump.

Remove oil filter cover with oil filter (1) with special tool 11 9 240 .

Tightening torque: 11 42 1AZ .

Unfasten screws (2).

Remove intake snorkels (1).

Tightening torque: 11 41 1AZ .

Release all nuts (1) using special tool 11 7 201.

Tightening torque: 11 41 5 AZ .

Remove oil pump drive gear.

NOTE: Graphic shows engine removed

Release screw (2).

IMPORTANT: Mark threaded support sleeve. It may not be adjusted.
A timing chain that is adjusted too tight will damage the oil pump.

Unscrew nuts (1).

Remove oil pump.

Installation note:

Tightening torque: 11 41 2AZ .

Release bolts in area of line (1).

Release bolts in area of line (1).

Release bolts in area of line (2).

Tightening torque 11 13 2AZ .

Release 4 bolts on transmission side.

Tightening torque 24 00 1AZ .

Remove upper oil sump section (1).

Installation note:

Free sealing surfaces of seal debris and clean.

Replace gasket.

Modify oil pressure switch if replacing oil sump.

Assemble engine.
