11 65 045 Removing and installing/replacing low-pressure exhaust turbocharger (M57T2-SCR)

WARNING: Risk of burning!

Only perform this repair work on an engine that has cooled down.

Recycling 

Catch escaping engine oil with suitable auxiliary materials.

Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary work: 

IMPORTANT: In event of turbocharger damage:
  • Pressure pipes
  • Charge air cooler
  • Intake plenum

check the above for foreign bodies, damage and correct function, replacing if necessary.

Unfasten screw (1)

Tightening torque, see 11 65 3AZ in 11 65 TURBOCHARGER AND CONTROL .

Release screws (1) and remove holder (2).

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Release nut (3) and disengage linkage.

Remove vacuum unit for turbine control flap.

Detach vacuum hose (3) from connecting piece.

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Release hose clamp (1) from oil return line.

Tightening torque, see 11 42 4AZ in 11 42 OIL FILTER AND PIPES .

Loosen hose clamps (1).

Tightening torque 11 42 4AZ in 11 42 OIL FILTER AND PIPES .

Release screws (1) with special tool 12 2 100.

Tightening torque, see 11 65 2AZ in 11 65 TURBOCHARGER AND CONTROL .

Remove L.P. turbocharger downwards.

Installation note: 

Clean sealing surfaces and replace gasket.

To avoid damaging the threads and prevent turbocharger leaks, insert mounting bolts in 1/2 turns simultaneously.

When replacing low-pressure turbocharger, release screws (1) and modify compressor bypass (2).

Tightening torque 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Replace O-ring.

IMPORTANT: Nut (1) must not be released under any circumstances.
Do not use linkage (2) as a carrying handle.
(May result in failure of the turbocharger group).

IMPORTANT: Spacer ring (1) must be fitted without fail.
Clean threads (2) with thread cutter.

Adjust turbine control flap.

Assemble engine.
