11 13 000 Removing and installing, sealing or replacing the oil sump (M57T2-SCR)

IMPORTANT: When performing repair work on the engine oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must protect the alternator against dirt contamination.
Risk of damage! 
Cover alternator with suitable materials.
Failure to comply with this procedure may result in an alternator malfunction.
IMPORTANT: Tightening torques must be observed without fail.
Risk of damage! 

Necessary preliminary work: 

Release positive starter motor wire (3) from bracket.

Detach fuel delivery line (1) from bracket.

Detach fuel return line (4) from bracket.

Release screw (2).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 4AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Disconnect plug connection (5) and lay to one side.

Unclip electrical wiring (3) on transmission.

Release bolts (2) on gearbox.

Tightening torque, see 11 13 5AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Lay holder (4) to one side.

Disconnect plug connection (1) on oil level sensor.

Disconnect electrical line (2) from bracket and lay to one side.

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 4AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Remove guide tube (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation note: 

Replace sealing ring. 

When installing, apply a thin coating of lubricant on sealing ring.

Unscrew nuts (5).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 6AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Release holder (4) with ARS expandable hoses from oil sump guides and place to one side.

Slacken nut (1).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 7AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Release holder (3) with gearbox oil cooler lines (2) from oil sump guide and place to one side.

Unfasten screws (1 and 4).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 8AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Release holder (2) with coolant return line (3) from oil sump and place to one side.

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 9AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Remove bearing support (1) from oil sump.

Installation note: 

Replace sealing ring.

IMPORTANT: Bolts of oil sump have different lengths.
Observe different tightening torques.

Release bolts along line (1).

Tightening torque, see 11 13 2 and 3AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

If necessary, release nuts (2) and remove oil level sensor.

Tightening torque, see 11 13 10AZ in 11 13 OIL PAN .

Installation note: 

Replace sealing ring. 

Installation note: 

Apply Drei Bond 1208 sealant (refer to BMW Parts Department) in area of joints (1).

IMPORTANT: There must be no adhesive residues in the crankcase retaining threads.
Clean retaining threads and sealing surfaces. 

Installation note: 

Replace all seals.

Assemble engine.
