11 12 000 Removing and installing/sealing cylinder head cover (M57T2-SCR)

Necessary preliminary work: 

(E70 only)

Release screws (1) (left and right sides) and remove carrier support cross connection.

Tightening torque, see 51 71 4AZ in 51 71 SEALS AND LOOSE BODY PARTS .

Release banjo bolt (1) on exhaust manifold.

Tightening torque, see 13 62 9AZ in DIESEL SENDERS FOR CONTROL UNIT

Unlock and disconnect connector (1) on electropneumatic pressure converter.

Detach blue vacuum hose from vacuum unit (turbine control flap).

If necessary, disconnect red vacuum hose from vacuum unit (compressor bypass).

Unlock and release connector (1) under vacuum reservoir of EPPT valve.

Release screws (1) on vacuum reservoir.

Tightening torque: 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Unlock, detach and disconnect connectors (2, 3 and 4).

Release fuel differential-pressure sensor (5) from vacuum reservoir.

Tightening torque: see 13 62 7AZ in 13 62 SENSOR, DDE CONTROL UNIT

Unlock and detach all connectors.

Remove vacuum reservoir (1) from stud bolts (2).

Feed out vacuum reservoir upwards and to side.

Release screws (1 and 2) and remove vacuum reservoir carrier.

Tightening torque: 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION

Unlock EPPT valve (1) from holder (2), slide forwards and remove from retaining plate.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

NOTE: EPPT = pressure converter.

Picture shows vacuum unit removed (turbine control flap).

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Detach holder (2) from cylinder head cover.

Unlock connections (1 and 2) from heating element and detach.

On reverse side of cylinder head cover release screw (1) and detach wiring harness towards top.

Release screw (1) on reverse side of cylinder head cover.

Release screws (1).

Lay wiring harness for injection system to one side.

Release screws (1).

Lay rail to one side.

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Release all bolts (arrows).

Tightening torque 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION

Release bolts (2) from inside to outside.

Tightening torque 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Remove cylinder head cover.

Installation note: 

First tighten bolts (2) from inside to outside.

Tighten down outer bolts diagonally and evenly.

Release screws (arrows).

Replace profile seals (1).

Sealing surfaces clean and free of seal debris.

Remove gasket debris from sealing surfaces (1) of cylinder head and clean.

Apply a bead of Drei Bond -1209 sealant (refer to BMW Parts Department), approx. 3 mm wide and 2 mm high, in area of joints (2).

Assemble engine.

Observe arrangement of vacuum lines.
