11 71 100 Removing and installing/replacing exhaust-gas recirculation cooler (M57T2)

IMPORTANT: When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, you must protect the alternator against contamination.

Cover alternator and belt drive with suitable apparatus.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove acoustic cover
Remove fan cowl. See 17 11 035 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FAN COWL WITH ELECTRIC FAN (M57T2) .
Drain coolant. See 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (M57T2)

Release clamp (1) from exhaust-gas recirculation cooler.

Tightening torque, see 11 71 1AZ in EXHAUST-GAS RECIRCULATION .

Unlock and detach coolant hose (2).

Release coolant hose (4) and detach

When replacing, modify thermostat (3) for exhaust-gas recirculation cooling.

Tightening torque, see 11 00 2AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Installation:

Replace gasket.

Release screws (1) on EGR cooler/manifold.

Installation

Tightening torque, see 11 71 2AZ in 11 71 EXHAUST-GAS RECIRCULATION .

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Unfasten screw (1)

Installation:

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Installation:

Observe tightening sequence.

Join screws (1, 2 and 3).
Release screws (1, 2 and 3) back by 90°.
Secure screws (5).

Tightening torque, see 11 71 2AZ in 11 71 EXHAUST-GAS RECIRCULATION .

Secure profile clamp (4).

Tightening torque, see 11 71 1AZ in EXHAUST-GAS RECIRCULATION .

Tighten screw (3).

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Secure screws (1, 2).

Tightening torque, see 11 00 4AZ in 11 00 STANDARD SCREW CONNECTION .

Installation:

Top up coolant See 17 00 005 DRAINING AND ADDING COOLANT (M57T2)
