11 31 005 Checking camshaft timing (M57T2)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Crank engine at central bolt.

The cams on the camshafts (1) of the 1st cylinder point in the direction of travel to the right.

Remove protective cap in direction of arrow.

Installation: 

Reinstall protective cap with some grease.

Hold crankshaft in TDC position with special tool 11 6 080.

IMPORTANT: Do not turn the engine back.
Special tool 11 6 080 must be removed before engine is started.

Fit special tool 11 6 321 on inlet camshaft (1).

NOTE: Special tool 11 6 321 must lie flush on cylinder head.

For a better overview, this work step is shown without the vacuum pump.

Fit special tool 11 6 321 on exhaust camshaft (1).

NOTE: Special tool 11 6 321 must lie flush on cylinder head.

If necessary, adjust CAMSHAFT TIMING  .

Assemble engine.
