Spring Strut Shock Absorber: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 17 other vehicles, including the 2008 BMW 760Li, 2007 BMW 760Li, 2006 BMW 760i, 2006 BMW 760Li, and 2005 BMW 760i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. If a new coil spring is installed, release special tool (31 3 341) and remove coil spring. Fit new coil spring in special tool (31 3 341). Position spring so that both ends are outside spring retainers with approximately one winding.
  2. Insert shock absorber into coil spring. One threaded pin (1) on the thrust bearing must be on one plane with the bore in the robber mount (2) and the opposite side of the bush (3). See Fig 1 .
  3. Install in order the protective tube (1), the auxiliary spring (2) and the support pot (3). See Fig 2 .
  4. Ensure end of spring is seated exactly in rubber mounting. See Fig 3 and Fig 4 .
  5. Replace self-locking nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  6. Install shock absorber to thrust bearing and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  7. Install shock absorber to wheel carrier and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  8. Install stabilizer to stabilizer bar and tighten nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
