Axle Carrier Rubber Mounts: Disassembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 17 other vehicles, including the 2008 BMW 760Li, 2007 BMW 760Li, 2006 BMW 760i, 2006 BMW 760Li, and 2005 BMW 760i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Lower axle carrier on side of rubber mount to be replaced. See AXLE CARRIER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
Assemble special tool (33 4 140) with (33 4 148/149). See Fig 1 .
Unscrew feed handle (1). Mount extension piece (3) on special tool (33 4 145) with new screw (2) if necessary. See Fig 2 .
Fit special tool (33 4 140/155/156/158) on openings in rubber mount. Ensure it is correctly supported on bush of rear axle carrier. See Fig 3 .
Heat axle carrier with an industrial hot air blower with maximum outlet temperature of 1112°F (600°C). Heat bearing bush for approximately 2 minutes. Pull out rubber mount.
