Power Steering Vane Pump: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 BMW 745i, 2004 BMW 745Li, 2003 BMW 745i, 2003 BMW 745Li, and 2002 BMW 745i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Lettering on belt pulley must point towards front.
  2. On vehicles with ARS, first tighten down front retaining screws on power steering pump. Then tighten threaded support bushing (1) hand-tight against housing of power steering pump. Then tighten nut (2). See Figure.
  3. On vehicles without ARS, tighten down front retaining screws on power steering pump. Then tighten threaded support bushing (1) hand-tight against threaded pin (3). Then tighten nut (2). See Figure.
  4. Replace seals (D) and connect hydraulic lines to power steering pump. Tighten banjo bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  5. Fill and bleed hydraulic system. See BLEEDING POWER STEERING SYSTEM  under LUBRICATION.
