Disassembly & Assembly

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 BMW 745i, 2004 BMW 745Li, 2003 BMW 745i, 2003 BMW 745Li, and 2002 BMW 745i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove FCD coupling. See FCD COUPLINGS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Only the FCD dirt seal (1), the support ring (2) and the O-ring (3) can be replaced on coupling head. See Fig 1.
  3. Press in special tool (32 1 023) as far as it will go in connecting piece on hydraulic steering gear. Then pull out again. See Fig 2.
  4. Remove spring ring (1) from special tool (32 1 023). See Fig 3.
  5. To assemble, lay new spring ring (1) in special tool (32 1 021). Using special tool (32 1 022), press spring ring (1) into connection. In so doing, press through special tool as far as it will go. Bore hole in special tool (32 1 021) is conical. Special tool must rest with stepped side securely on connection of hydraulic steering gear. See Fig 4.
  6. Install FCD coupling. See FCD COUPLINGS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
