Instrument Panel Lower Trim: Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2004 BMW 745i, 2004 BMW 745Li, 2003 BMW 745i, 2003 BMW 745Li, and 2002 BMW 745i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect battery negative lead.
  2. Open fins of fresh air grill (1). Attach special tool (64 1 030) on both sides in mounts (2) and pull out fresh air grill (1) slightly in direction of arrow. Close fins of fresh air grill (1) and remove grill (1) towards rear. See Fig 1 .
  3. Unclip fresh air grill (1) with special tool (00 9 341). See Fig 2 .
  4. Grip trim (1) through openings (2) from inside and unclip along wood trim towards top. See Fig 3 .
  5. Release screws (1). Pull out center fresh air grill (2) towards rear. Disconnect plug connections behind and remove center fresh air grill (2). See Fig 4 .
  6. Unclip instrument cluster trim (1) by applying light thumb pressure upwards on wood trim on left and right. See Fig 5 .
  7. Release screws (1). See Fig 6 .
  8. Release screws (1) for center wood trim. See Fig 7 .
  9. Release nut (1) on right side of wood trim. See Fig 8 .
  10. With special tool (00 9 321) through openings (1) for fresh air grill, unclip wood trim (2) next to retaining pin (3). See Fig 9 .
  11. Slide threaded pin (2) with wood trim (1) out of panel (3). Remove wood trim (1) towards rear. See Fig 10 .
  12. Release screws (1) for center instrument panel trim. Pull out trim (2) slightly in direction of arrow. See Fig 11 .
  13. Unlock plug (1) from PDC switch and detach. Remove trim (2). See Fig 12 .
  14. Release nut (1). See Fig 13 .
  15. Release screw (1). With special tool (00 9 321) through opening for fresh air grill, unclip wood trim (3) in direction of arrow. See Fig 14 .
  16. Release screws (1). Feed lighting control unit (2) out in direction of arrow. Disconnect plug connection behind and remove lighting control unit (2). See Fig 15 .
  17. Remove trim panel for pedal assembly. See TRIM FOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY  .
  18. Turn plug connection (1) approximately 30° counterclockwise and remove from holder (2). Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect. See Fig 16 .
  19. Release screws (1) at bottom of trim panel. See Fig 17 .
  20. Release screws (1) and remove panel (2). See Fig 18 .
