51 32 154 Adjusting left or right front door window glass
Requirements for correct adjustments: front door correctly adjusted, convertible top correctly adjusted, and car must stand on its wheels.
Observe adjustment sequence: (1) Pretension, (2) Longitudinal direction, (3) Retraction depth.
Ideal adjustment, pretension: Partially open convertible top and close door window glass (1). Close door until lock closes in first catch. Door window glass (1) must touch against A-pillar seal (2) but must not press into it.
Adjusting pretension: Adjustment can be carried out by way of opening for outside door handle or window guide rail. First carry out adjustment by way of opening for outside door handle. If ideal adjustment is not yet obtained, proceed with adjustment by way of window guide rail.
Adjustment by way of opening for outside door handle: Remove outside door handle. Slacken screw (1) in clockwise direction. Slide clamping plate (3) upwards or downwards.
Note: Screw (1) must be sufficiently slackened.
Tighten down screw (1) in counterclockwise direction. Tightening torque, see 51 32 2AZ in BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES . Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Adjustment by way of window guide rail: Open door and lever out rubber plug (1). Release nut (2) and move window guide rail. Tighten nut (2). Tightening torque, see 51 33 2AZ in BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES . Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Ideal adjustment, longitudinal direction: Close convertible top, door and door window glass. Door window glass (1) must touch seal (2) in area of B-pillar. Area (A) shows permitted area. Area (A): From tip of indentation (3) to max. 1.5 mm towards front
Adjusting longitudinal direction: Remove outside door handle. Slacken screw (1) in clockwise direction. Slide door window glass (2) into desired position. Note: Clamping plate (3) must not be moved in the process. Tighten down screw (1) in counterclockwise direction. Tightening torque, see 51 32 2AZ in BODY EQUIPMENT - TIGHTENING TORQUES . Check adjustment, repeat procedure if necessary.
Ideal adjustment, retraction depth: Close convertible top, door and door window glass. Stick adhesive tape at front and rear onto door window glass at height of window cavity cover strip. Open door and manually close door lock rotary striker. Measure gap (A) between adhesive tape and window cavity cover strip. Gap (A) max. 3.5 mm.
Adjusting retraction depth: Open door and door window glass. Lever out rubber plugs (1 and 2). Adjust height uniformly via adjusting screw (3) at front and rear.
Notes on initializing power window unit (from 04/2004).
Initialization comprises: Erasure of initialization, Reinitialization. An initialization must be performed: In the event of malfunctions, e.g. no one-touch function, no opening or if available no comfort function possible, after the power window drive has been replaced, after work is carried out on the power window mechanism, after a power supply interruption, e.g. disconnection of the battery or disconnection of the power supply to the door, after adjustment work on the convertible top, or after replacement of seals.
Erasure of initialization: Open door window glass fully. Operate power window switch in "Open" position four times within 10 seconds. This erases initialization of the power window, anti-trapping protection and toll function are inactive. Check whether one-touch control (toll) function is inactive, otherwise repeat procedure.
Reinitialization: Close convertible top and doors. Carry out following procedure for corresponding window twice in succession with engine running. Avoid a break between the two steps!
Open door window glass fully. operate and hold power window switch in "Close" position (second switch stage). Once upper end position has been reached, hold power window switch down for approx. 2 seconds more. This completes initialization.
