51 48... Removing and installing/replacing sound insulation in rear door, left or right

Remove rear door trim panel,

refer to 51 42 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING REAR LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR TRIM PANEL .

If necessary, remove airbag module in rear door,

refer to AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS .

Remove inside door handle on rear door,

refer to 51 22 225 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING INSIDE DOOR HANDLE OF REAR LEFT OR RIGHT DOOR .

Release cable (1).

Using special tool 00 9 317 (trim panel wedge), lever out sealing bead (1) of sound insulation (2) completely or if necessary partially.

Installation: 

In event of replacement or partial detachment, lay butylene tape (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) on inner door plate or sound insulation.

Seal cable penetrations with butylene tape.

NOTE: Position of butylene tape (1) on inner door plate.

CAUTION: When working with adhesive cleaners in enclosed rooms:
Ensure room is well ventilated.
The adhesive areas must be dry and free from dust and grease.
After cleaning, do not touch the adhesive areas with bare hands.

If necessary, clean the specified adhesive area with adhesive cleaner (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).

Air drying time: 1 minute

Lay butylene tape with +/- 6 mm (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service) in specified adhesive area.

Heat butylene tape (hot air blower) and press down firmly on sound insulation all around.

Contact pressure with hand roller: approx. 30 N/cm2

Manual contact pressure: approx. 10 N/cm2

NOTE: Firm thumb pressure has approx. 50 N/cm2
