Steering-Column Adjustment Soft Stop

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 15 other vehicles, including the 2006 BMW 530i, 2006 BMW 525i, 2006 BMW 330xi, 2006 BMW 330i, and 2006 BMW 330Ci. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The soft stop prevents the steering-column adjustment motor from continually moving to the mechanical stop. When the steering-column adjustment reaches a mechanical stop, this position is stored in the non-volatile memory of the centre console switch cluster (SZM). For subsequent adjustments, movement is made as far as the soft stop, without the mechanical stop being reached.
