32 33 000 Removing And Installing/Replacing Steering Wheel

NOTE: Wheel/chassis alignment is not necessary after the steering wheel has been removed and installed or replaced.

Necessary Preliminary Tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead. Refer to 61 20 900 DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
Remove airbag unit. Refer to 32 34 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AIRBAG UNIT (BASIC STEERING WHEEL) and 32 34 030 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING AIRBAG UNIT (SPORT STEERING WHEEL) .

Move wheels to straight-ahead position.

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Release screw (2) and remove steering wheel. Refer to 32 33 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING WHEEL .

Installation:

Tightening torque 32 33 1AZ, refer to 32 33 STEERING WHEEL .

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

Locking pin (1) must engage in recess of driver (2).

Installation:

Align steering wheel using grooved toothing to steering column and attach.

Replacement:

Remove steering wheel module control unit. Refer to 61 31 231 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING WHEEL ELECTRONICS CONTROL UNIT and 61 31 232 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING STEERING WHEEL MODULE CONTROL UNIT (SPORTS STEERING WHEEL) .

Remove multifunction steering wheel switches on both sides. Refer to 61 31 220 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING MULTIFUNCTION STEERING WHEEL SWITCH .
