51 42 001 Replacing left or right rear door trim

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Version with HiFi system: remove mid-range speaker. Refer to 65 13 090 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SPEAKER (MID-RANGE SPEAKER) .

If necessary,

Attach central clip (2) to frame (1).

Version with HiFi system: 

Cutout (1) for mid-range speaker must be sawn out with rotating circular band saw (2). Use rotating circular band saw with 72 to 73 mm dia..

Check center marking; if necessary, mark center again.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage! Do not drill through foam material (C), fleece (B) and fabric (A). Fabric may tear and fleece may wrap itself around drill bit and be torn out of door trim panel.

First drill through plastic layer (D) of door trim panel with drill bit at marked point.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage! In order not to damage door trim panel (1), cut out fabric (A), fleece (B) and foam material (C) around penetration for drill bit (2). Fleece (B) may wrap itself around drill bit and be torn out. Fabric (A) may tear.

Cut out fabric (A) and fleece (B) of door trim panel (1) at marked cutout (3). Cutout (3) dia. 20 to 30 mm.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage! Do not saw into foam material (B), fleece (C) and fabric (D). Only cut through plastic layer (A) with rotating circular band saw.

Saw out cutout with rotating circular band saw and cut out fabric (1) with scalpel (2).
