Mechanical design transfer box

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 45 other vehicles, including the 2016 BMW M5, 2016 BMW 550i xDrive, 2016 BMW 550i, 2016 BMW 535i xDrive, and 2016 BMW 535i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The control unit for the transfer box (VTG) is attached below at the servomotor for the multidisc clutch.

The design of the multidisc clutch was changed slightly.

A motor position sensor is located in the servomotor. The motor position sensor detects the position of the servomotor and informs the transfer box control unit of the position.

Item Explanation
1 Connection front axle
2 Multidisc clutch
3 Connection to rear axle
4 Control unit transfer box (VTG)
5 Servomotor multidisc clutch

A temperature sensor in the VTG control unit monitors the power output stage for the servomotor. This protects the servomotor from thermal overload. Any thermal overload of the servomotor is signalled by a Check Control message. The transfer box moves temporarily into its open position. This disconnects the multidisc clutch. Once the servomotor has cooled down, the multidisc clutch can be operated again (preconditions: DSC must request once-only 0 Nm locking torque).
