64 52 523 Replacing compressor for air conditioner

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!

Follow instructions for compressor replacement without fail. See 64 52... Instructions For Compressor Replacement .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

All models:

Draw off refrigerant from A/C system. See 64 50 009 Drawing Off, Evacuating And Filling A/C System (R 134a) .
Remove front underbody protection.

M54 only:

Release coolant expansion tank, disconnect plug connection and place coolant expansion tank to one side.

Version with Dynamic Drive:

Do not release pressure lines on active stabilizer.

Press lock (1) on distributor (2) and detach vent line (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Make sure vent line (3) is correctly seated in distributor (2).

Lower stabilizer on front axle.

Version with Dynamic Drive:

Release nuts (1) and (2).

Remove retaining fixture (3).

Installation:

Make sure retaining fixture (3) is correctly seated.

All models:

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Loosen screws (2).

Installation:

Tightening torque, see 64 52 1AZ in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING - TIGHTENING TORQUES article.

Detach refrigerant lines (3) in direction of arrow.

Installation:

Replace sealing rings.

NOTE:

Secure A/C compressor (2) against falling out.

Release screws (1).

Feed out A/C compressor (2) in direction of arrow.
