51 13 399 Replacing rear-end trim section (M5)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 19 other vehicles, including the 2010 BMW M5, 2009 BMW M5, 2008 BMW M5, 2007 BMW M5, and 2007 BMW 550i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

IMPORTANT:

The INSTRUCTIONS on component bonding with double-sided adhesive tape serve as the basis for this repair instruction and must be observed without fail.

Removed rear-end trim section must be disposed of in each case. Reattachment with adhesive tape is not permitted.

Removing rear-end trim section:

Release nuts (1).

Carefully detach rear-end trim section (2) from rear lid with special tool 00 9 318 (wedge) and hot air blower.

Fitting rear-end trim section:

Attach two magnetic tapes (1) on left/right in each case at distance (A) to rear lid.

A= approx. 30 mm

Pull off liner* (1) only and kink all remaining liner protrusions outwards.

Place rear-end trim section (2) on rear lid and magnetic tapes (3).

NOTE: Make sure that adhesives tapes at top do not come into contact with rear lid.

Centre rear-end trim section (2).

Pull out magnetic tapes (3) and press on rear-end trim section (2) at top.

Remove liner* (4) and press on rear-end trim section (2) at top.

Minimum application pressure is achieved by applying firm thumb pressure in stages over the entire joining surface (hold time approx. 1 second).

* Liner is the protective film on a rear-end trim section.
