12 31 020 Removing and installing or replacing alternator (S63)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Turn off ignition.
Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
Remove alternator DRIVE BELT .
Remove FUEL FEED LINE .

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Cover radiator.

Unlock plug (1) and remove.

Remove cover (2) and release nut underneath.

Tightening torque 12 42 1AZ .

Disconnect positive battery cable from alternator.

Installation:

Absolutely reinstall cover (2) Risk of short circuiting!

Pull off cable channel (1) upwards from alternator holder and place to one side.

Remove wiring harness (2) from alternator holder and place to one side.

Release screws (1).

Place auxiliary water pump to one side.

Do not pull off coolant hoses (2)

Unscrew screws (1).

Tightening torque 12 31 1AZ .

Unclip positive battery cable (2) from alternator holder.

Feed out holder (3) and remove.

Feed out alternator and remove.

NOTE: Check stored fault message.
Reassemble the vehicle.
Delete fault memory.
