72 12 060 Removing and installing/replacing left or right head airbag

A damaged head airbag must be replaced.
A damaged head airbag exhibits an impaired protective function and in extreme cases loses its protective function altogether.

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD .
- Remove ROOFLINER .
- Follow INSTRUCTIONS for unlocking and locking airbag plug connection.
Installation summary, retaining elements, head airbag
IMPORTANT:
When removing head airbag, do not damage
- Head airbag
- Windscreen
- Retaining clips
- Trim panels
Release screw (1) on A-pillar.
Tightening torque 72 12 2AZ .
Release retaining screws (2).
Tightening torque 72 12 5AZ .
Remove deformation plate (3).
Release screw (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 2AZ .
Installation:
Folding pack is under tab washer.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 2AZ .
UNLOCK AND DISCONNECT plug (3) for gas generator (2).
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 72 12 04AZ .
Remove gas generator (2) in direction of arrow.
Installation:
Gas generator is coded against incorrect installation.
