51 24 326 Removing And Installing / Replacing Left Tension Spring With Damper For Rear Lid

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove right LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM .
WARNING:
Support rear lid in fully opened position with suitable apparatus. Risk of injury.
Pull off retainer (1) upwards.
Pull off tension spring with damper (2) in inwards direction.
WARNING:
The rear lid will drop down if it is not supported.
Unhook tension spring with damper (1) from rear lid hinge (2).
Installation:
Observe installation direction: hinge end is identified by means of plastic sleeve (1).
Following parts on the tension spring with damper must not be damaged or missing:
- Plastic sleeve
- Foam inlay in tension spring
IMPORTANT:
Semicircular rubber buffer (2) (from window repair kit) must be fitted to rear lid hinge (3) without end stop (1).
Stick semicircular rubber buffer (2) at spacing (A) on rear lid hinge (3).
A = 65 mm
Semicircular rubber buffer (2) must touch rear lid hinge (3) in area (4) with rear lid open.
