64 52 523 Replacing A/C system compressor (N63)

Special tools required:

32 1 270 PLUGS

WARNING: Risk of injury!
Refrigerant circuit is under high pressure!
Follow safety instructions for handling R134a refrigerant.
Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigerant oil.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage!
Restart engine only when A/C system has been correctly filled.
Read and comply with notes on replacing compressor.
Follow instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit. See 64 52... Instructions for opening and replacing parts in refrigerant circuit

If A/C system is opened for more than 24 hours:
Replace desiccant insert for A/C system. See 64 53 517 Replacing desiccant insert for A/C system .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Drawing off, evacuating and filling the A/C system is not included in the time value given for this work operation, see 64 50 009 Drawing off, evacuating and filling A/C system (R 134a) .
Remove A/C compressor drive belt . See 11 28 050 REPLACING A/C COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT WITH BELT TENSIONER (N63) .
Remove tank venting valve. See 13 90 500 REPLACING TANK VENTING VALVE (N63) .
Remove right front wheel. See 36 10 300 REMOVING OR INSTALLING FRONT OR REAR WHEEL .
Remove front underbody protection. See 51 47 490 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT UNDERBODY PROTECTION .
Remove steering gear cover. See 51 71... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING BOTTOM LEFT OR RIGHT STEERING GEAR COVER .

Illustration similar. Release screw (1). Tightening torque 64 53 5AZ . Remove intake pipe (2) from exhaust tailpipe holder (3).

Release screws (1). Tightening torque 64 53 3AZ . Remove refrigerant line from condenser (2). Installation: Replace sealing rings. Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them.

Release screw (1) on holder (2). Take off holder (2). Tightening torque 17 22 03AZ . Version with Dynamic Drive: Release nuts (3) on holders for pressure lines (4). Remove holders for pressure lines (4). Tightening torque 32 41 07AZ .

NOTE: For purposes of clarity, illustration shows bumper removed.

Unscrew nuts (1). Tightening torque 51 11 05AZ . Pull module carrier and coolant radiator in direction of arrow to create sufficient space for subsequent compressor removal.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage! Before later removing compressor, protect cooling fins by covering with an aluminum sheet, for example.

Release screws (1). Tightening torque 64 52 03AZ .

IMPORTANT: Close openings or line to compressor with special tool 32 1 270 to avoid media leak and dirt contamination.

NOTE: Secure compressor (5) against falling out.

Disconnect plug connection (2). Release screws (1). Tightening torque 64 52 03AZ . Lower compressor (5). Release screws (3) and (4) and remove refrigerant lines. Tightening torque 64 52 01AZ .

Installation: Replace sealing rings. Use special tool 00 9 030 to mount sealing rings without damaging them. Carefully feed out compressor (5) toward the front.

After installation: Evacuate and fill A/C system
