23 12 060 Replacing Radial Shaft Seal For Output Flange (GS6-17BG/DG)

Special tools required:
- 00 5 011 . See 00 5 010 UNIVERSAL PULLER .
- 23 0 020
- 23 1 210
- 24 0 110 . See 24 0 110 DRIFT .
- 33 1 150 . See 33 1 150 FIXTURE .
For the following special tools, refer to MANUAL TRANSMISSION - SPECIAL TOOLS .
IMPORTANT:
After completion of work, check transmission oil level
. See 00 11..... DRAINING/TOPPING UP GEAR OIL IN MANUAL TRANSMISSION . Use only approved transmission oil. Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious damage to the transmission.
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove underbody protection
- Remove exhaust system . See EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPLETE
- Remove front muffler (N45K)
- Remove heat shields
- Tie propeller shaft to one side. See 26 11 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING PROPELLER SHAFT (CARDAN UNIVERSAL JOINT) COMPLETELY .
Brace output flange with special tool 23 0 020. See Fig 1.
Release collar nut with special tool 23 1 210. See Fig 1.
Tightening torque, see 23 21 1AZ in 23 21 TRANSMISSION SHAFTS .
Insert collar nut with Loctite 243 screw securing adhesive (sourcing reference: BMW Parts Service).
Detach output flange with special tool 33 1 150 from output shaft.
Withdraw radial shaft seal with special tool 00 5 011 . See Fig 3.
Installation:
Coat sealing lips of new radial seal with gear oil.
Drive in radial shaft seal with special tool 24 0 110 and plastic hammer until flush. See Fig 4.
