65 20 090 Removing and installing/replacing aerial amplifier (Security) (diversity)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 BMW 550i, 2009 BMW 550i, and 2008 BMW 550i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

NOTE: Aerial amplifier is bonded to armor plating under molded rooflining and connected via 6 coded plug-in contacts with rear window aerial leads. Rear window aerial leads are designed loose and fitted with plug connectors.
NOTE: For purposes of clarity, illustration shows molded rooflining removed. Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect. Disconnect plug connections (2) for rear window aerial leads and secure loose leads to rear window with adhesive tape (e.g. Tesa).

If necessary, remove fabric adhesive tape (1) from plug connections for TV aerial leads.

Installation:

Wrap fabric adhesive tape round plug connections for TV aerial leads again.

Position fold scraper  with blade (20 mm) between armor plating (1) and adhesive tape (2), carefully pull aerial amplifier (3) downwards and drive fold scraper forward in-between. Remove aerial amplifier (3).

Installation:

Aerial amplifier is bonded to armor plating with 2 x 2 -ply double-sided assembly adhesive tape (length 360 mm).

Before bonding, clean bonding surfaces (board, smooth side, and armor plating, molded rooflining) with spirit or isopropyl alcohol (air drying time 10 mins.).

Replacement:

Only in conjunction with 2 x 2 -ply double-sided assembly adhesive tape (length 360 mm) and rear window aerial wiring harness. Remove aerial amplifier plastic covers. Remove 6 spring contacts (1) on strip conductor side with soldering iron. Solder 6 new cables in place of aerial amplifier spring contacts (3) with insulation overlapping (2).
