23 42 542 Replacing shift and/or selector sensor GS6S53BZ (SMG)

NOTE: After completing work:
  • Perform "Teach in transmission" service function by means of DIS Tester 

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

IMPORTANT: Shift and selector sensors can only be removed/installed when transmission is set to "N".

Removing shift sensor: 

Unfasten screws.

Tightening torque 23 41 11AZ  . See MANUAL TRANSMISSION - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Turn shift sensor (1) approx. 90° clockwise.

Installation: 

Replace screws.

Lever out shift sensor (1) upwards at an angle.

Unclip cable.

Installation: 

Fit shift sensor (1) downwards at an angle and turn counterclockwise until installation position is reached.

IMPORTANT: Risk of damage:
When fitting shift sensor (1), make sure that lever (2) engages in groove (3) on selector rod.

Removing selector sensor: 

Unfasten screws.

Tightening torque 23 41 11AZ  . See MANUAL TRANSMISSION - TIGHTENING TORQUES .

Turn selector sensor (1) counterclockwise slightly.

Installation: 

Replace screws.

Lever out selector sensor (1) upwards at an angle.

Unclip cable.

Installation: 

Fit selector sensor (1) downwards at an angle and turn clockwise until installation position is reached.
