Removal & Installation (Left)

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Remove 3 screws, lower pedal assembly trim panel, disconnect footwell light and remove trim panel. Remove front door scuff plate. Detach footrest from Velcro fasteners and remove. Remove screw and hood release handle.
  3. Remove screw and expansion rivet from upper front corner of side trim panel (cowl trim panel). Detach door weatherstrip from side trim panel. Pry side trim panel clips loose and remove side trim panel. Pull carpet slightly to one side. Disconnect A-pillar sensor harness connector. Remove screw and nuts, then remove A-pillar sensor.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure sensor is securely mounted. Tighten screw and nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Replace damaged trim panel trim clips. Perform appropriate coding/programming using proprietary BMW DIS tester as necessary. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
