12 41 020 Removing and installing/replacing starter motor

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Read out fault memory of DME control unit
Switch off ignition
Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD
Remove INTAKE AIR MANIFOLD

Unlock connector (1) and remove.

Release nut (2) and disconnect battery positive cable (3).

Tightening torque 12 42 2AZ .

Release screws (3) and remove starter motor (4).

Tightening torque: see 12 41 STARTER MOTOR WITH MOUNTING .

Installation note:

Check starter pinion and ring gear for damage, replace starter motor if necessary.
