Removal & Installation (Front Or Rear Door)

- Side air bag module is attached to back of door trim panel. See Fig 1 . Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Lower appropriate front door glass fully. Using Release Hook (64 1 020), lever out footwell light. Disconnect harness connector and remove light assembly.
- Remove LED for door handle/door compartment light, if necessary. Using Trim Panel Wedge (00 9 317), lever out AIRBAG emblem, located on upper rear of door trim panel, then remove screw underneath.
- Using trim panel wedge and starting at bottom of door panel, unclip door trim panel. Carefully unclip door trim panel at top from retainers. Feed door trim panel upward out of central clip mounting and release button. Unhook Bowden cable for release lever. Disconnect side air bag module and other harness connectors.
- Remove door trim panel and place on clean work surface with back of panel facing up. Remove 4 screws and remove side air bag module.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Replace any broken clips. Use NEW air bag mounting screws. Tighten side air bag module mounting screws and door trim panel screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
