51 49 005 Removing And Installing/Replacing Trim For Lower Rear Lid

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Version with automatic tailgate actuation: 

If necessary Remove switch for automatic rear lid actuation.  See 61 31 084 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING SWITCH FOR AUTOMATIC REAR LID ACTUATION .

NOTE: Detaching recessed handle is shown on left side; proceed in same way for detaching recessed handle on right side.

Lever out cover (1) and remove from recessed handle (2).

Release screw (1).

Version with manual rear lid unlocking: 

Detach handle (1) from clip (2).

Disconnect Bowden cable (3) from handle (1).

Installation: 

Guide Bowden cable (3) through clip (2) and connect correctly in handle (1).

Release expansion rivets (1).

Lever out catches (3) and detach trim (2) in direction of arrow.

Disconnect plug connection under luggage compartment light (4) and remove trim (2).

Installation: 

If necessary, replace faulty clips (1) on trim (3) for rear lid at bottom.

Replacement: 

If necessary, remove frame (2) of switch for automatic rear lid operation or cover for rear lid button.

If necessary, replace clip for handle of manual rear lid unlocking.
