32 34 030 Removing And Installing / Replacing Airbag Unit (Sport Steering Wheel)

WARNING: Observe the following instructions to avoid any risk of injury by the airbag unit.
NOTE: Incorrect handling may result in triggering of the airbag unit and thereby cause serious injury.
IMPORTANT: Steering wheel  must be replaced if airbag unit has been triggered! See 32 34 030 REMOVING AND INSTALLING / REPLACING AIRBAG UNIT (SPORT STEERING WHEEL) .
Follow procedure after airbag triggering  . See 72 12... PROCEDURE AFTER AIRBAG TRIGGERING AS RESULT OF AN ACCIDENT .

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

Insert a suitable tool (1) (approx. 6 mm dia.) (e.g. pin punch, Torx screwdriver) through bore holes (2) in steering wheel until a springy resistance can be felt through annular spring (3) of airbag unit.

Unlock airbag unit by pressing screwdriver (1) in.

Installation: 

Align airbag unit with steering wheel and press in.

Do not pinch wires.

WARNING: Danger of injury!
Airbag unit may only be set down with the airbag itself facing upwards  .

Pull out steering wheel module (1) slightly, unlock and disconnect plug connection (2).

Remove airbag unit (3).

Replacement: 

Disconnect plug connections on airbag unit and remove connecting cable.

Installation: 

Connect plugs to connections of same color on airbag unit.
