11 37 006 Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Eccentric Shaft (N62 To 9/03): Identification

  1. Lever with roller for cylinders 1 to 4
  2. Lever with roller for cylinders 5 to 8

IMPORTANT: The position of the eccentric (3) is crucial to fitting the lever (2) and the installation direction in the bearing bridge described later.
Incorrect assembly will result in engine damage. 

Cylinder bank 5 to 8: 

As shown in the illustration, the machined surface (3) on the eccentric must point upwards and the groove in the eccentric shaft must be pointed upwards at an angle.

Align lever (2) with digits 5-8 pointing to groove in eccentric shaft and insert. Insert screw (1).

Grip lever (2) with roller at dihedral.

Tighten down screw (1).

Installation of magnet wheel:

NOTE: Roller (2) must not rest against vise.
Clamp eccentric shaft (1) with front jaws on dihedral in a vise.

IMPORTANT: The position of the eccentric is crucial to fitting the magnet wheel (1) and the installation direction in the bearing bridge described later.
Incorrect assembly will result in engine damage. 

Magnet wheel (1) is secured with a lug in groove in eccentric shaft.

IMPORTANT: Only install original antimagnetic screw (2).

Insert screw (2) and tighten down.

Tightening torque. See ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES -- ALPINA .

NOTE: Replace bearing shells (1) of needle bearings.
IMPORTANT: Bearing shells (1) must be installed in such a way that ends of bearing shells (1) face each other as shown in illustration.

Insert bearing shells (1) into bearing bracket so that it is secured in bore (2).

Lubricate bearing shells (1) with engine oil.

Cylinder bank 5 to 8: 

IMPORTANT: There is a danger of mixing up battery leads:
Machined curvature of eccentric points inwards.
Lever (2) with roller points towards front.

Install eccentric shaft as shown in illustration.

Lubricate bearing shells (1) with engine oil.

Install bearing shells (1).

Bearing shells (1) must snap audibly into place.

Check correct position of bearing shells (1).

Install left inlet camshaft.  See 11 31 032 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT INLET CAMSHAFT (N62 FROM 9/03 AND N62TU) .

Assemble engine.
