Removal & Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2007 BMW 550i, 2007 BMW 530i, 2007 BMW 525i, 2006 BMW 550i, and 2006 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove appropriate wheel.
- Remove brake disk (brake line remains connected) and ABS pulse sensor. See DISC article in BRAKES.
- Remove tie rod end from swivel bearing. See TIE ROD .
- Remove tension strut from swivel bearing. See TENSION STRUTS .
- Remove control arm from swivel bearing. See CONTROL ARM .
- Remove holder for stabilizer link. See STABILIZER BAR LINK HOLDER .
- Support swivel bearing (1) from below with workshop jack and a suitable mount. See Fig 1. Expand swivel bearing with Special Tool (31 2 230). Lower swivel bearing with workshop jack. If necessary, remove tension strut from swivel bearing. Remove swivel bearing.
- If necessary, replace bearing for front wheel. See FRONT WHEEL BEARING .
- If necessary, remove screws (1) and replace guard plate (2). See Fig 2.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Perform alignment check. See SPECIFICATIONS & PROCEDURES article in WHEEL ALIGNMENT.
