Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2007 BMW 550i, 2007 BMW 530i, 2007 BMW 525i, 2006 BMW 550i, and 2006 BMW 530i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Support exhaust system with Special Tool (31 2 220). See Fig 1. Detach suspension on front muffler from body. Remove reinforcement plate (1). See Fig 2. Release screw connection of flanges on exhaust manifold. See Fig 3. Unfasten screw connection. Remove front pipe holder. See Fig 4. Release screw connection of holder from front muffler on rear axle differential. See Fig 5. Release screw connection of holder for rear muffler on rear axle carrier. See Fig 6.
  2. Release screw connection of holder for rear muffler on tail panel. See Fig 7. Remove complete exhaust system. If necessary, remove vibration damper and install on new exhaust system.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Replace gaskets and self-locking nuts. After complete installation of exhaust system, align front pipe holder so it is free from tension.
