51 24 150 Removing and Installing/Replacing Hydraulic Unit For Rear Lid Actuation (From 02/2003) (Electrohydraulic-Fully Automatic)

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

E67 only: 

Unscrew nuts (1).

Remove holder and pull out hydraulic unit (2).

Disconnect plug connections (3).

When removing hydraulic cylinder only: 

Unhook cable holders (5) and feed out hoses (4).

Tightening torque 51 24 4AZ  . See 51 24 REAR LID LOCKS

Tightening torque 51 24 7AZ  . See 51 24 REAR LID LOCKS

When removing hydraulic unit only: 

Detaching hoses on hydraulic unit: 

IMPORTANT: Catch escaping fluid with a cleaning cloth/oil drip tray.

Release banjo bolts (1 and 2).

Installation: 

  1. Banjo bolt on hydraulic unit "RED"
  2. Banjo bolt on hydraulic unit "BLUE"
  3. Adhesive tape on hose is "red"
  4. Adhesive tape on hose is "blue"

Tightening torque 51 24 1AZ  . See 51 24 REAR LID LOCKS

NOTE: If the hydraulic unit (5) is replaced or stays removed for an extended period of time, seal the bores in the hydraulic unit and the hose connections for the hydraulic cylinder.

Sealing connections on hydraulic unit and hose connections for hydraulic cylinders: 

Hydraulic unit: 

Use seal plugs from "Small parts for hydraulic unit"* set and removed seals.

Hose connections: 

Use seal plugs with cap nuts from "Small parts for hydraulic unit"* set and removed seals.

Installation: 

Always fit new banjo bolts (1) and seals (2 and 4).

  1. Hollow screw
  2. Upper seal (thin)
  3. Hose connection
  4. Lower seal (thick)

Check fluid level in hydraulic unit  See 51 24 ... NOTES AND INSTRUCTIONS ON AUTOMATIC REAR LID ACTUATION (FROM 02/2003) (ELECTROHYDRAULIC-FULLY AUTOMATIC)

Installation: 

Insert guide (1) into counter support (2).

If necessary, replace counter support (2).
