33 33 001 Replacing Left Or Right Rear Axle Carrier Tension Strut

IMPORTANT:

Driving without compression struts is not permitted!

Risk of damage!

The rear axle carrier must be supported at the front is both tension struts have to be replaced!

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove rear lip
Version with Dynamic Drive: Disconnect pressure lines for oscillating motor of rear axle from tension strut. See 37 13 110 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING PRESSURE LINE FOR OSCILLATING MOTOR/REAR AXLE

Release screw (1).

Tightening torque 33 32 28AZ . See 33 32 CONTROL ARMS AND STRUTS

Remove heat shield (2) from clip (3) on fuel tank retaining strap.

Installation:

Check clip (3) for damage and replace if necessary.

Release screws (1).

Tightening torque 33 32 17AZ . See 33 32 CONTROL ARMS AND STRUTS

Release screw (2) and remove tension strut (3).

Secure rear axle carrier by inserting screw (2).

Installation:

Check threads for damage; if necessary, repair with Helicoil thread inserts . See 33 00... NOTES ON REPAIRING THREADS

Tightening torque 33 33 3AZ . See 33 33 REAR AXLE SUSPENSION
