Special tools required:

Cylinders 1 to 6.

Necessary preliminary tasks: 

WARNING: Scalding hazard! 
Only perform these tasks after the exhaust system has cooled down.

Plug connection (1), cylinders 1 to 6.

Plug connection (3), cylinders 7 to 12.

Unlock and detach plug connection (1).

Unclip oxygen control sensor cable.

Installation: 

Pay attention to cable routing of Lambda control sensor.

Release screws (1).

Remove shield (2).

Remove oxygen control sensor (1) with special tools 11 7 030 and 11 9 150. See 11 7 030 SOCKET WRENCH SOCKET WAF 22 , 11 9 150 SPECIAL WRENCH

Oxygen control sensor (1) for cylinders 1 to 6 can only be detached from above and with a suitable extension (2).

Installation: 

When using special tools 11 7 030 and 11 9 150, 47 Nm on torque wrench scale corresponds to an actual tightening torque of 50 Nm. See 11 7 030 SOCKET WRENCH SOCKET WAF 22 , 11 9 150 SPECIAL WRENCH

If an oxygen control sensor is reused, apply a thin and even coat of Never Seez compound (refer to BMW Parts Service) to the thread only.

The part of the oxygen control sensor which projects into the exhaust system branch (sensor ceramic) must not be cleaned or come into contact with lubricant.

Check function of DME.
