Brake Linings (Rear): Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2005 BMW 760i, 2005 BMW 760Li, 2005 BMW 745i, 2005 BMW 745Li, and 2004 BMW 760i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove wheels.
  2. Remove plastic plugs (1). See Fig 1.
  3. On right side, disconnect plug connection for brake lining wear sensor. If necessary, replace brake lining wear sensor.
  4. Release guide screws (2) with Special Tool (34 1 080). See Fig 2.
  5. Lift out retaining spring (3). See Fig 3.
  6. Turn piston fully back with Special Tool (34 1 050). See Fig 4. Pay attention to brake fluid level in expansion tank. Fluid that spills over will damage paint.
  7. Mark any worn brake linings. If the brake linings are worn on one side, they must not be mixed up.
