Brake Linings (Front): Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 11 other vehicles, including the 2005 BMW 760i, 2005 BMW 760Li, 2005 BMW 745i, 2005 BMW 745Li, and 2004 BMW 760i. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove wheels.
  2. Lever out retaining spring (1) in direction of arrow towards rear. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove plastic plugs (1). See Fig 2. Lift brake hose out of bracket.
  4. On left side, pull brake lining wear sensor (1) towards rear out of lining. See Fig 4. If necessary, replace brake lining wear sensor. Release guide screws (2) with Special Tool (34 1 080). Withdraw brake caliper backwards.
  5. Press back brake linings and piston with Special Tool (34 6 320). See Fig 3. When forcing piston back, pay attention to brake fluid level in expansion tank. Brake fluid that spills over will damage paint.
  6. Press brake linings inward and remove. See Fig 5. The two brake linings are seated with a spring in the piston or on the brake caliper housing and must not be mixed up. Mark any worn brake linings. In case of one-sided brake lining wear, do not change brake linings around.
